Low Voltage Directive and CE Marking

BASEC can provide manufacturers, traders and end users with technical advice and support in connection with the European Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU) and CE marking under this Directive, as regards cables and related products.

Until 19 April 2016 when Notifiied Bodies were discontinued, BASEC was a Notified Body under the Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC) and was able to provide a number of statutory and advisory services as set out in that edition of the Directive.  The UK's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS, formerly DTI) regularly assessed BASEC's technical capability to maintain the Notification.

Any party involved in the trading into and within Europe of products falling within the scope of the Low Voltage Directive has responsibilities defined under the Directive.  A summary of these responsibilities can be obtained from BASEC.

BASEC can provide the following commercial services:

  • Advice on procedures
  • Advice on standards and specifications
  • Technical reports
  • Testing of cables
  • General advice
  • Investigations into compliance

Test reports and / or product approval certificates obtained from BASEC may be used by manufacturers and traders as part of their technical documentation in support of their compliance with the Low Voltage Directive.
